2012 Miracle Ambassadors

January 9, 2012

The newest celebrities in St. Louis and members in the Children’s Miracle Network of Greater St. Louis family have been selected. Please meet the 2012 CMN St. Louis Miracle Ambassadors, Camryn Akerson and Mackenzie Scott!

As ambassadors, Camryn and Mackenzie will help raise awareness for CMN St. Louis and our local partner hospitals by speaking at events throughout the region about their experiences and appearing in various marketing campaigns throughout the year.  We are proud to have an ambassador child every year from each partner hospital to represent the organization and hospitals throughout the St. Louis community.

Camryn, age five, was treated at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center and has undergone 12 surgeries for hydrocephalus, a shortened right ulna, a missing right radius, and numerous heart defects as a baby.  Mackenzie, age 12, was diagnosed with Leggs-Calves-Perthes Disease in 2004.  A degenerative bone disease, Mackenzie was treated at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and has undergone surgeries and treatments to extend her legs and allow her femoral joint to rebuild and re-ossify.

Thanks to these amazing hospitals, both children now live active and vibrant lives.  While doctors feared Camryn may never walk, talk, or see, she can do all three very well, takes voice lessons, and has an extremely bubbly personality.  Mackenzie was able to walk for the first time at her kindergarten graduation, and now loves dancing, singing, and acting.

Camryn and Mackenzie are truly amazing kids, and we are so lucky to have gotten to know them over the past couple months. If you’re ever at one of our events, be sure to get to know them!
