Armoni Carpenter
2001 Miracle Ambassador
Age 16 - Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center
There are four words a parent never imagines hearing: “your child has cancer.” That’s what Armoni Carpenter’s mother, Val, was told at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center one summer afternoon in 2001. In just one day, the Carpenter's world would come crashing down.
Armoni was about to turn eight years old and was excited to start 2nd grade. Like any child, he was trying to enjoy the last few days of summer when on one afternoon in August 2001, Armoni was coughing a lot and felt severe pain in his chest. His mom called their pediatrician and took him to see the doctor immediately. In just a few hours, Armoni and his parents received news they never imagined they would hear. Doctors found a tumor in Armoni’s chest that was cancerous. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma.
Armoni was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and immediately started on chemotherapy. Despite the intensive treatment, Armoni completed his treatment with flying colors and now lives cancer free. His mom will proudly tell you that throughout his treatment he "always kept his chin up and his spirits high."
If you were to meet Armoni today, you would have no idea he was once fighting the battle of his life. Today, he enjoys watching television, playing video games and reading. Simply put, he enjoys being able to be a kid again.
