St. Louis Children’s
Hospital

St.
Louis Children's Hospital, the oldest children's hospital west of the
Mississippi River, stands today as one of America's leading institutions
dedicated to treatment and care of infants and children. Each year, more
than 250,000 patients visit the hospital, which offers comprehensive
services in every medical and surgical specialty. In the spirit of those
who founded the hospital, the entire hospital staff today proudly does
what's right for patients and their families today.
To
this end, the early 21st century saw an expansion of education, wellness
and injury prevention outreach programs to help children beyond the walls
of the hospital building. For example, the hospital's Healthy Kids
Express, the first mobile health program in the region, provides various
healthcare services for children not receiving timely medical care. Each
year the Healthy Kids Express team visits about 300 area schools and
community agencies and offers health screens for nearly 10,000 children.
Cardinal Glennon Children's
Medical Center

Named
after John Cardinal Glennon, the Archbishop of St. Louis from 1903 to
1946, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center first opened its doors in
July 1956. It was the Archbishop's mission to see a health care facility
open to all children in need of medical care.
The
sun displayed prominently atop the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's
Medical Center name has been the hospital's symbol for many years. It means
hope, warmth, caring, commitment and excellence. The child-like writing of
the hospital's name symbolizes the entire reason for the hospital's
existence: We are here for the children, now and in the future.
Throughout its existence, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center has
lived out the mission and vision of its namesake. We are committed to
providing the best medical care, the best education and the best research
possible for all children in need. |
