Glennon Children's Medical Center
Hailey
was born in April of 2000. She
was a happy, healthy baby girl! When
she was 14 months old, Hailey was diagnosed with cancer in both
kidneys.
Hailey
started dialysis immediately as well as chemo- therapy. She received
chemo for six months, during which, both kidneys were removed.
Six
months after chemo ended, her family was devastated to find out that
she had relapsed with another tumor in her abdomen, where her left
kidney used to be.
Hailey
went on to receive six more months of chemotherapy, followed by
radiation treatments. She
was declared in remission one month later and has remained so for 5
years!
Hailey
was also on dialysis for 4 years and received a kidney transplant in
2005 in which her paternal grandmother was the
living donor.
Life
has not been easy for young Hailey.
Sadly, Hailey lost her father in October of 2007.
She is currently doing well and despite it all, Hailey
continues to smile and bring sunshine to the lives of everyone.
She enjoys Barbie dolls, Hannah Montana, Girl Scouts and
swimming.
